So Child #1 says, "Today is someone's birthday. It is my friend from Poland. Let's make a cake." So then the gears began to turn in support of #1's friend's birthday. Because a birthday should never go uncelebrated even if it is a make-believe birthday. For she has no friend from Poland. Not sure why she even knows there is such a place as Poland. Why she knows they speak Polish in Poland. Or really why she often speaks of Poland. Today, however, that was beside the point. There was a reason to make a cake and it doesn't take much for me to be persuaded in the direction of sweets.
We went all out with a chocolate sour cream layer cake. I only have on pan of that size, so it took forever to bake both layers. It didn't matter, we were doing it for our great friend "Ellie" (or so she has now been named). We made frosting. Of course we had to bring out three varieties of sprinkles. She was able to scrounge up four candles...which is convenient because it just so happened that today was Ellie's fourth birthday.
After dinner tonight we sang, blew out candles and ate some cake. So glad that today was Ellie's birthday!
